Synopsis

The Kachchi Dargah Bidupur six-lane bridge project across the Ganga is nearing completion and is expected to open by April, strengthening road connectivity between north and south Bihar. Spanning nearly 20 km, the project links NH-30 in Patna with NH-103 in Vaishali and is designed to reduce traffic load on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu. With phased sections already operational, the remaining stretches are under close monitoring to ensure timely completion and smoother regional movement.

Work on the Kachchi Dargah Bidupur road-cum-bridge project is progressing steadily, with authorities targeting full operational readiness by April. The six-lane structure, stretching 19.76 km across the Ganga, connects Kachchi Dargah on NH-30 in Patna to Bidupur on NH-103 in Vaishali district. Once opened, it will serve as a key additional river crossing for the state.

The project is expected to significantly ease pressure on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu, which has remained the primary and heavily used link between north and south Bihar for decades. Officials have indicated that the new bridge will improve daily commuting, reduce travel time, and provide a more reliable route for emergency and commercial movement.

Construction has been planned and executed in phases. The initial stretch between Kachchi Dargah and Raghopur Diara in Vaishali was opened to traffic last year, offering early relief to commuters. Work is continuing on the remaining sections, including the Raghopur Diara to Hajipur Mahnar NH-122 corridor and the connecting stretch from NH-122B to Chaksikandarpur on NH-322.

Regular site reviews have been carried out to track progress and address execution challenges, particularly given the complex riverine conditions of the Ganga. Engineers involved in the project have focused on maintaining structural safety while adhering to the planned timeline.

Once fully completed, the bridge will complement existing crossings such as the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and the J P Ganga Setu, strengthening Patna's road network and improving access to key districts in Vaishali and adjoining regions. The project forms part of Bihar's broader effort to modernise its transport infrastructure and support long-term mobility needs.
