The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has dismantled three illegal colonies located in the Manakwal and Mehmoodpura areas of Ludhiana as part of its continued action against unauthorised development. The move followed repeated legal notices issued to developers who failed to stop construction activities. Authorities also initiated legal proceedings and warned homebuyers against investing in unapproved colonies that lack statutory permissions and basic civic infrastructure. The action forms part of GLADA's ongoing enforcement strategy to curb unplanned urban growth.
The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has carried out demolition and sealing operations at three unauthorised residential colonies in the Manakwal and Mehmoodpura villages of Ludhiana. The action was taken under directions from the housing and urban development department and the chief administrator of GLADA, after developers continued construction despite receiving multiple notices.
Officials involved in the drive stated that the colonies were developed without obtaining mandatory approvals under planning laws. As the violations continued, GLADA proceeded with dismantling the illegal structures and sealing the sites. The operation was completed without any resistance from local residents or developers.
Along with the demolition, GLADA initiated legal action against the developers responsible and registered FIRs to ensure accountability. Authorities reiterated that such colonies are often marketed at lower prices to attract buyers but remain outside the legal planning framework. These developments do not qualify for essential civic services such as water supply, sewerage systems, road connectivity, or electricity connections from government agencies.
GLADA officials again cautioned prospective buyers to verify the legal status of any property before investing. They advised checking approved colony lists, layout plans, and permissions available on the official GLADA portal. Past enforcement actions have shown that buyers in illegal colonies face long-term risks, including lack of basic infrastructure and no scope for regularisation.
The authority has been consistently conducting similar drives across Ludhiana district to control unregulated expansion and ensure planned urban development. Officials indicated that enforcement actions against illegal colonies will continue in the coming period to prevent further violations.
