Synopsis

US-based wireless infrastructure owner American Tower has reported fourth-quarter revenue above market expectations, supported by higher leasing activity from telecom operators and sustained demand from data centres. The company said expanding 5G networks, rising mobile data consumption and increasing artificial intelligence-related workloads have continued to drive demand for tower space and associated infrastructure. Quarterly revenue stood at USD 2.74 billion, exceeding analysts estimates of USD 2.69 billion, while revenue from its core property segment rose year-on-year. American Tower's customer base includes major US telecom operators such as AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, which have been increasing network capacity and coverage. The results underline continued infrastructure investment by carriers as they scale networks to support 5G services, cloud computing and data-intensive applications.

US wireless communications infrastructure owner American Tower reported fourth-quarter revenue above Wall Street expectations, supported by stronger leasing activity from telecom carriers and continued momentum in data-centre demand, according to results released on Tuesday.

The company said revenue for the quarter reached USD 2.74 billion, compared with analysts expectations of USD 2.69 billion, as compiled by LSEG. Performance was underpinned by steady expansion in network capacity by wireless operators, who are responding to rising mobile data usage, ongoing 5G rollouts and growing demand linked to artificial intelligence and cloud-based workloads.

American Tower operates and develops wireless and broadcast communications infrastructure, leasing tower space and related facilities to wireless service providers as well as radio and television broadcasters. Its customer base includes major US telecom operators such as AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, all of which have been investing in network upgrades and coverage expansion.

Chief executive Steven Vondran said leasing demand across the company's global tower portfolio and data-centre business remained robust. He indicated that sustained growth in mobile data consumption, continued deployment of 5G networks and the increasing use of hybrid cloud architectures and AI-related applications were collectively supporting demand for infrastructure assets.

Revenue from American Tower's property segment, which includes its core site-leasing business, rose 7.6% year-on-year to USD 2.67 billion during the quarter. The segment accounts for the bulk of the company's income and reflects leasing arrangements across thousands of tower sites globally.

Industry conditions have remained favourable for infrastructure providers as telecom operators seek to densify networks and improve service quality. US carriers have been adding capacity to accommodate higher data traffic volumes generated by streaming, connected devices and enterprise applications, while also preparing networks for more advanced 5G use cases. At the same time, demand for data-centre connectivity has increased as cloud service providers and enterprises expand computing capacity to support AI-driven workloads.

American Tower's results indicate that these trends are translating into stable leasing activity and revenue growth, even as broader technology and telecom markets remain cautious on capital expenditure. The company's diversified portfolio, spanning wireless towers and data-centre assets, has positioned it to benefit from multiple infrastructure demand drivers.

The quarterly performance was reported by Reuters from Bengaluru, with the company highlighting continued resilience in its operating model. While the results reflect conditions in the fourth quarter, management commentary suggests that leasing demand remains supported by structural shifts in data consumption and digital infrastructure requirements rather than short-term cycles.

American Tower did not provide additional forward guidance in the update, but the quarter's outperformance points to sustained investment by telecom and technology firms in network infrastructure as they scale services to meet rising data and connectivity needs.
