Tamil Nadu has signed four Memorandums of Understanding in the aerospace and defence sectors involving a total proposed investment of INR 1,600 crore. Facilitated by the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, the projects span precision aerospace manufacturing, aviation training and simulation, ammunition production, and advanced spacecraft components. The investments are expected to generate around 1,900 jobs across technical and engineering roles. The move adds to the state's ongoing efforts to build a strong aerospace and defence ecosystem supported by industrial parks, policy backing and a growing supplier base.
The Government of Tamil Nadu, through the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, has entered into four Memorandums of Understanding in the aerospace and defence sectors with a combined investment commitment of INR 1,600 crore. The agreements are expected to create nearly 1,900 employment opportunities in high-skill segments such as precision engineering, simulation technology, manufacturing and research.
PMI Engineering Exports has committed INR 500 crore to set up a precision aerospace manufacturing facility in the state. The proposed unit will manufacture high-precision components using advanced CNC machining and will work with materials such as titanium, inconel and nickel-based superalloys. These components will cater to both civil aviation and defence applications, strengthening local supply chains.
SIMVAYU has proposed an investment of INR 600 crore to establish an advanced aviation training and simulation centre in Chennai. The facility will house aircraft simulators and provide certification programmes, simulator engineering services, research support and drone simulation modules. The project is expected to support pilot training and technical workforce development within the state.
Tychon Global Systems will invest INR 500 crore in setting up an ammunition manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi. The facility is aimed at enhancing domestic ordnance production capacity and supporting defence manufacturing requirements.
In addition, IIT Madras-incubated start-up Inbound Aerospace will establish an advanced aerospace manufacturing unit. The company will focus on recoverable and reusable spacecraft components, satellite solar panels, integrated avionics systems and clean-room assembly operations. This project reflects growing participation of deep-tech start-ups in the state's industrial ecosystem.
Tamil Nadu has been steadily building its aerospace and defence base over the past few years through dedicated industrial parks, policy incentives and infrastructure support. The state has promoted clusters in locations such as Sriperumbudur, Coimbatore and Krishnagiri to attract high-technology manufacturers. The latest set of agreements adds to these efforts and signals continued interest from private players in expanding operations in the state.
