The administration in Davanagere district has distributed land title deeds to approximately 12,000 people as part of a recent revenue record conversion exercise, officials said earlier this week. During a ceremony held in Haveri, the Deputy Commissioner announced that 298 residential areas within the district had been formally declared as revenue villages, enabling issuance of the deeds. Davanagere is now ranked second in the state for the number of title deeds issued, reflecting accelerated efforts to update land records and secure legal ownership for residents. Authorities also noted that some beneficiaries were yet to receive their documents, with a distribution deadline set for mid-March, and urged those individuals to contact the local tahsildar's office. The drive forms part of broader land administration reforms aimed at streamlining records, reducing disputes and ensuring clarity of ownership rights for citizens.
The Davanagere district administration has completed a major land record update initiative with the distribution of title deeds to roughly 12,000 people, Deputy Commissioner G M Gangadharaswamy said during a public event held in Haveri earlier this week. The ceremony marked the formal conversion of 298 residential areas into recognised revenue villages, a step that enabled officials to issue legally enforceable land titles to beneficiaries, district records show.
According to the deputy commissioner, Davanagere now ranks second among districts in the state for the volume of title deed distributions under the current campaign. The initiative is part of wider efforts by the state government and district administration to modernise land ownership records, resolve historical ambiguities and provide citizens with clear legal proof of ownership.
Mr Gangadharaswamy noted that while the distribution event covered a significant number of beneficiaries, several individuals have not yet collected their title deeds. Authorities have set a deadline of mid-March for remaining distributions and have urged those awaiting documents to approach the local tahsildar's office to ensure delivery. Officials said that about 4,000 files related to land parcels had already been processed and disposed of, while around 10,000 files remained pending, reflecting ongoing administrative work to complete record issuance.
The title deed distribution drive dovetails with the conversion of informal or unrecorded residential settlements into revenue villages, a move that formalises land status and enables residents to access legal protections and government services tied to recognised property ownership. By systematically updating land records and issuing deeds, district authorities aim to reduce disputes, facilitate property transactions and bolster confidence in land governance systems.
Officials said preparations are also underway for an upcoming census operation, which will incorporate updated land and household data and may benefit from the recent record-modernisation efforts. Individuals awaiting title deeds were advised to complete collection formalities promptly to ensure their inclusion in official records and to exercise newly conferred ownership rights.
