L&T and NVIDIA are collaborating to create gigawatt-scale, sovereign AI infrastructure in India. The joint venture will combine L&T engineering and execution expertise with NVIDIA's AI platforms to support high-density, production-ready AI workloads for domestic and global users. The initiative aligns with the India AI Mission, enabling data, model, and workload development within India while remaining globally interoperable. Key projects include scaling GPU clusters at L&T Chennai campus to 30 MW and deploying a new 40 MW data centre in Mumbai, creating a foundation for large-scale, efficient, and sustainable AI deployment.
Engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) recently announced a proposed joint venture with NVIDIA to establish sovereign, gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure, aiming to strengthen India's position in global artificial intelligence development. The collaboration is designed to serve Indian enterprises, policymakers, industry leaders, global offtakers, and analysts seeking production-ready AI capacity, supporting the country's ongoing digital and industrial transformation.
The partnership will combine L&T's engineering, infrastructure, and execution capabilities with NVIDIA's AI technology, including GPUs, CPUs, networking, accelerated storage platforms, the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software stack, and reference architectures. According to L&T's filing to the BSE, the venture will deploy AI-ready data centre infrastructure, advanced computing platforms, and ecosystem enablement tools to support large-scale AI workloads across key sectors.
Aligned with the India AI Mission, the initiative will create sovereign AI infrastructure that allows the development, training, and deployment of critical data, models, and workloads entirely within India while maintaining compatibility with global ecosystems. The sovereign by-design framework will serve domestic needs and attract global hyperscalers, cloud providers, and enterprises aiming for large-scale AI deployment from India.
The venture plans a gigawatt-scale AI data centre factory to handle high-density, next-generation workloads, with a focus on efficiency and sustainable growth. NVIDIA GPU cluster deployment will scale to 30 MW at L&T's Chennai data centre, situated on a 300-acre gigawatt-scalable campus, and to 40 MW at a new Mumbai data centre currently under development.
L&T Chairman and Managing Director S N Subrahmanyan stated that the collaboration will build infrastructure enabling AI to deliver measurable economic impact. NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang said the partnership lays the groundwork for world-class AI infrastructure that will support India's growth and realize the goals of the India AI Mission.
