Synopsis

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved an allocation of INR 56.86 crore for the renovation of 387 rural roads across four assembly constituencies in the Prayagraj region. Covering nearly 494.55 km, the project focuses on restoring village link roads that have not seen major repairs for several years. The works will be executed through the Public Works Department after completion of the tender process. Once contractors are appointed, construction is expected to be completed within four months, aiming to improve rural connectivity and daily mobility.

The Uttar Pradesh government has cleared a proposal to renovate 387 rural roads across four assembly constituencies in the Prayagraj region, with a total financial outlay of INR 56.86 crore. The approval covers road stretches located in Phaphamau, Phulpur, Handia and Soraon constituencies, which together account for nearly 494.55 km of rural road length. These roads form key village link routes and are essential for everyday movement within rural areas.

The project has been sanctioned after a long gap, as large-scale rural road renovation work in these constituencies had not been undertaken for around five years. Many of the identified roads are in need of structural repairs due to wear and tear, making travel difficult for local residents, particularly during the monsoon season. The plan includes both major connecting roads and smaller internal village stretches that support access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.

Execution of the work will be handled by the Construction Division-4 of the Public Works Department, which has earlier overseen infrastructure works linked to the Kumbh area. The tendering process is currently underway, and officials have indicated that the entire renovation exercise will be completed within four months from the date of award of contracts.

Several important rural links have been included in the project scope. These include stretches connecting Handia, Soraon and Phulpur via Damgarha, roads linking Balrampur Bazaar to Jagatpur through Lilapur and Jamunipur, and routes connecting Sahson to Tiwaripur along with adjoining village roads. Additional sections such as internal roads near village ponds, canal crossings and habitation clusters have also been identified for repairs to ensure continuity of movement.

The approval comes as part of a broader focus by the state on strengthening basic road infrastructure beyond highways and expressways. While Uttar Pradesh has invested heavily in major road corridors in recent years, officials have acknowledged that rural connectivity requires parallel attention to support local economic activity and daily commuting needs.
