Synopsis

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed the relocation and reconstruction of the Park Street Electric Receiving Sub Station (RSS), strengthening power supply for Delhi's expanding metro network. Originally built in 2010, the substation was dismantled to enable the Central Vista redevelopment and rebuilt on alternate land provided by CPWD. The upgraded RSS will support existing corridors and the upcoming Central Vista Metro line between Indraprastha and R K Ashram Marg. Designed for future demand, it features modern transformers, GIS panels, automation systems and energy-efficient infrastructure. Enhanced safety and fire protection systems have also been installed, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted power for current and future metro operations.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has successfully completed the relocation and reconstruction of the Park Street Electric Receiving Sub Station (RSS), a key component of the power infrastructure required for the expanding metro network in New Delhi. The upgraded substation, part of the government's Central Vista redevelopment project, will provide uninterrupted electrical power to metro corridors, including the new Central Vista Metro line connecting Indraprastha and R K Ashram Marg.

Originally constructed in 2010 during Phase II of the Delhi Metro, the Park Street RSS supplied traction power to the Airport Line and the Violet Line. To facilitate construction under the Central Vista Project, the facility was dismantled in 2021-22 and subsequently rebuilt on alternate land provided by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). Reconstruction began in 2023 and was completed in December 2025.

The new substation has been planned to meet both existing requirements and future traction power needs. It includes the re-erection and commissioning of major electrical equipment such as 66 kV power transformers, 66 kV GIS panels, 33 kV panels and 25 kV GIS panels, alongside additional 25 kV feeders to support the upcoming Central Vista Metro line under Phase-5A expansion plans.

In addition to its core functions, the modernised RSS has been equipped with an upgraded substation automation system and energy-efficient features including advanced air-conditioning and LED lighting. Enhanced safety systems, such as automatic fire protection for transformers and panels and a fully addressable fire alarm system, have also been incorporated to ensure operational reliability.

The completion of the Park Street RSS marks an important step in fortifying the power backbone of Delhi's metro network, supporting both current operations and forthcoming infrastructure developments tied to urban expansion and connectivity goals.
