Concord Control Systems Ltd has secured an approximately INR 47 crore contract from NTPC Limited for the development of a green hydrogen fuel cell hybrid locomotive propulsion system, the company said. The order has been booked by its wholly owned subsidiary, Advance Rail Controls Pvt Ltd, and involves the supply of all plant and equipment required for the project.


The contract covers development of a 3,100 horsepower green hydrogen fuel cell locomotive propulsion system that will be retrofitted for operations at NTPC's Sipat facility in Chhattisgarh. According to the company, the project is expected to be completed within about 18 months, based on its regulatory filing.

The propulsion system is designed to convert an existing diesel locomotive into a high-horsepower hydrogen-powered unit, significantly advancing clean mobility solutions for heavy rail applications. The order is seen as a global first for a hydrogen-fuelled locomotive of this power class, placing India ahead of earlier international benchmarks for hydrogen rail systems.
