Chandigarh's Naksha pilot project has made substantial progress, with approximately 4,500 of the estimated 7,000 residential and commercial properties in Sectors 2-17 mapped and verified. Twenty field teams are working daily, overcoming difficult weather conditions, aiming to finish the survey by late January. Officials from the Survey of India, NIC, Municipal Corporation, and other agencies are closely monitoring the process. Authorities emphasized the importance of accurate records for city planning, taxation, and property management and requested residents to provide full cooperation during the survey.
Chandigarh's administration has reported steady progress in its Naksha pilot survey, with around 4,500 properties in Sectors 2-17 physically mapped and verified out of approximately 7,000 residential and commercial units. A review meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav assessed ongoing field surveys and ground-truthing activities. Officials from the Survey of India, National Informatics Centre (NIC), Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, NPMU Delhi, and MPSEDC Bhopal participated, with some joining through video links. Authorities highlighted that despite adverse weather conditions, about 20 field teams are deployed daily, making consistent progress towards the project's scheduled completion by January 31, 2026.
Deputy Commissioner Yadav acknowledged the hard work of all departments and agencies involved and emphasized that accurate and reliable property data is critical for city administration, urban planning, taxation, and future development initiatives. The administration has also urged property owners and residents in the surveyed sectors to cooperate by providing complete ownership and property information when requested to ensure a smooth survey process.
The pilot survey is expected to strengthen Chandigarh's land records, offering more reliable data for planning infrastructure, property valuations, and municipal services. Accurate documentation will also support transparency in real estate transactions and help authorities maintain up-to-date records in a city where property rates and urban development have been steadily changing over recent years.
Officials indicated that the survey methodology includes field verification, photographic evidence, and cross-checking existing records with the National Land Records System. This comprehensive approach aims to minimize discrepancies, avoid future disputes, and create a robust database for long-term urban management. The Naksha pilot project in Chandigarh is considered a key step in implementing nationwide efforts to modernize land records across India.
