Synopsis

India Post has entered the ONDC platform as a logistics service provider, delivering its first parcel this week for an order placed by UdyamWell, an initiative supporting rural entrepreneurs. Acting as a Logistics Service Provider, the postal department now enables ONDC sellers to digitally schedule pickups, have parcels collected from their premises, and manage deliveries through its nationwide network. Using the Click & Book model, postage is collected at pickup, and parcels are tracked and delivered through technology-enabled logistics systems, enhancing the accessibility and efficiency of e-commerce shipments across India.

The Department of Posts has commenced handling shipments as a logistics service provider for orders placed on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform, successfully delivering its first parcel this week. The first order was booked through ONDC by UdyamWell, an initiative supporting Indian entrepreneurs, including artisans, farmers, and other rural businesses, and was placed earlier this week.

According to the postal department, the milestone marks its first online order booking through ONDC while acting as a Logistics Service Provider (LSP). The parcel, booked on January 13, was delivered smoothly on January 15.

With this integration, sellers on ONDC-enabled buyer applications can now select India Post for parcel pickup, booking, transit, and delivery through its nationwide network. Currently, the postal services operate under the Click & Book model. This allows sellers to digitally generate pickup requests, choose India Post as the logistics partner, and have their parcels collected directly from their premises.

The department collects postage at the time of pickup, while consignments are inducted, tracked, and delivered using its technology-enabled logistics systems. This development is expected to expand the reach of ONDC sellers across India, leveraging the extensive postal network to ensure faster and more reliable deliveries.
