Synopsis

Akasa Air has become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) after completing the mandatory IATA Operational Safety Audit, a key global benchmark for airline operations and safety. The move places Akasa Air among more than 360 airlines worldwide that are part of the association. With this, the carrier becomes the fifth Indian airline to join IATA, alongside Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and SpiceJet. The membership reflects Akasa Air's operational maturity since starting services in 2022 and aligns it with international aviation standards.

Akasa Air has secured membership of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), marking a significant step in the airline's operational journey. The airline qualified for membership after successfully completing the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), which evaluates an airline's management systems, operational control and safety processes against internationally accepted standards.

IATA is a global trade body representing over 360 airlines, accounting for a major share of worldwide air traffic. Membership allows airlines to participate in setting global aviation standards, industry policies and operational frameworks. With this development, Akasa Air becomes the fifth airline from India to be part of the association. Other Indian members include Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and SpiceJet.

Akasa Air commenced operations in 2022 and has since expanded its domestic and international footprint using a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline's entry into IATA comes at a stage when it is strengthening its network and operational scale, indicating compliance with global safety and governance norms.

The IOSA certification achieved by the airline is considered a critical requirement for international partnerships and code-sharing discussions. Being part of IATA also enables closer engagement with global airlines in areas such as operational efficiency, safety management, regulatory alignment and sustainability practices.

India's aviation sector has been witnessing steady growth in passenger traffic and fleet expansion over the past few years. Akasa Air's inclusion in IATA adds to the country's representation in global aviation forums and reflects the evolving standards among newer carriers operating in the market.
