Qatar Airways has become the first airline worldwide to equip Boeing 7878 aircraft with Starlink satellite internet while completing the rollout of the service across its Airbus A350 fleet. Nearly 120 widebody aircraft now operate with high-speed connectivity, covering over half of the long haul fleet. Since introducing Starlink in late 2024, more than 11 million passengers have accessed free gate to gate Wi-Fi, supporting streaming, video calls, and work. The airline also benefits from real time operational updates, improving crew coordination and technical monitoring across its global network.
Qatar Airways has reached two significant milestones in in flight connectivity by becoming the first airline to install Starlink on its Boeing 7878 aircraft and completing the global rollout across its Airbus A350 fleet. The airline now operates nearly 120 widebody aircraft with Starlink, covering more than 58 percent of its long haul fleet, including Boeing 777s, A350s, and 787s.
The Starlink installation programme began with the Boeing 777s in October 2024. The airline then initiated the Airbus A350 rollout, completing it within eight months. This timeline was faster than expected for such a large scale installation. After equipping the 777s and A350s, Qatar Airways moved to install Starlink on three Boeing 7878 Dreamliners, making it the first airline globally to achieve this milestone.
Passengers enjoy free high speed Starlink Wi-Fi throughout flights, with speeds reaching up to 500 Mbps. This allows uninterrupted streaming, video conferencing, online gaming, and other digital services. Connectivity is available gate to gate and covers flights across the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Middle East.
Since the service was introduced, over 11 million passengers have accessed Starlink onboard Qatar Airways flights. In 2025, nearly half of the 21 million passengers worldwide who used Starlink were onboard Qatar Airways, demonstrating the airline's leading role in in flight connectivity adoption.
Starlink also supports operational efficiency. Crew members receive real-time flight updates, cabin staff can coordinate with ground teams faster, and technical teams can monitor systems during flight. These improvements help reduce delays and enhance turnaround efficiency.
The airline's rollout shows a strong commitment to providing consistent, high-quality internet access across its widebody fleet. By being the first to equip both A350s and 7878s with Starlink, Qatar Airways sets a benchmark for global carriers in integrating satellite connectivity at scale.
