Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will operate under temporary airspace restrictions later this month due to Republic Day celebrations. Authorities have confirmed that non-scheduled flights will face operating bans during specific hours on January 26 and January 29. The curbs coincide with the Republic Day parade and the Beating the Retreat ceremony. As the country's busiest airport, handling around 1,300 flights daily, IGIA frequently implements such measures during high-security national events. Airlines and private operators are advised to adjust flight plans to manage the temporary limitations.
Airspace restrictions will be enforced at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport in connection with Republic Day-related ceremonies scheduled later this month. An official confirmed that special curbs are being put in place to manage security and ceremonial requirements during the national celebrations.
On January 26, non-scheduled flights will not be permitted to take off from or land at the airport during two time windows. The restrictions will apply from 8.30 am to 1 pm and again from 3 pm to 6 pm, aligning with Republic Day parade activities in the capital.
Additional curbs have been planned for January 29, the day of the Beating the Retreat ceremony. On that day, airspace restrictions will remain in force from 3 pm to 7 pm.
Indira Gandhi International Airport is the largest aviation hub in the country and manages nearly 1,300 aircraft movements each day. Similar temporary airspace controls are routinely implemented during major national events to ensure smooth coordination between civil aviation operations and security arrangements.
Airlines and operators of chartered and private aircraft are expected to plan their schedules accordingly to avoid disruptions during the restricted hours.
