The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is advancing the second phase of the four-lane Prayagraj Inner Ring Road, following approval of the preliminary Detailed Project Report (DPR) by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Covering 41.662 km from Madhopur near NH19 in Soraon tehsil to Amiliya in Karchana tehsil, the project will pass through 41 villages. Key elements include a 3.5 km bridge over the Ganga, a 1.2 km bridge over the Yamuna, four flyovers, three railway overbridges, and 120 small culverts. Land acquisition is expected to start soon.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated preparations for the second phase of the Prayagraj Inner Ring Road project, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and improve road connectivity in and around the city. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already approved the preliminary Detailed Project Report (DPR), clearing the way for technical surveys, land acquisition, and eventual construction.

The second phase spans 41.662 km from Madhopur village near NH19 in Soraon tehsil to Amiliya village in Karchana tehsil, crossing 41 villages. A significant component of the project is the construction of two major river bridges a 3.5 km six-lane bridge over the Ganga and a 1.2 km bridge over the Yamuna. Surveys are planned to finalize exact bridge alignments and village routes.

Additional infrastructure includes four flyovers, three railway overbridges, and approximately 120 small underground culverts, all designed to improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity for vehicles and local communities. Detailed technical reports for each element are being prepared for submission to the ministry for final DPR approval. Once approved, construction can begin.

Officials have indicated that land acquisition is expected to start within the next six months, following surveys and technical clearances. This phase builds on the initial stretch of the inner ring road, where preliminary groundwork and land compensation were carried out. The project is part of broader regional initiatives, such as the Ganga Expressway, which enhance connectivity and support economic growth by linking Prayagraj with other parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The Prayagraj project is expected to alleviate congestion in densely populated areas, especially for freight and intercity traffic that currently traverses the city. By reducing travel time and improving accessibility, the road is likely to facilitate smoother movement of goods and commuters, while supporting regional development and urban expansion around the city.
