Synopsis

Khapri railway station, on the outskirts of Nagpur, is set for a major INR 4 crore infrastructure upgrade by Central Railway to improve safety, comfort, and basic commuter amenities. The project will refurbish all three platforms, strengthen roofing, and install proper drainage systems to prevent waterlogging. Circulation zones will be resurfaced with paver blocks, and structural steel works will be carried out for long-term durability. Electrical panels and upgraded water supply systems with CPVC pipelines, brass fittings, and stainless steel basins will support better functionality and hygiene, addressing long-standing deficiencies.

The Central Railway has initiated a significant INR 4 crore upgrade at Khapri railway station to improve passenger facilities and strengthen core infrastructure. The station, located on Nagpur's outskirts, has faced long-standing deficiencies despite frequent commuter usage. This project focuses on enhancing safety, comfort, and overall functionality.

All three platforms will be revamped, including the previously neglected rear areas, with circulation zones resurfaced using 60mm paver blocks. Extensive roofing works will provide shelter for passengers, especially during the monsoon season, while rainwater spouts and pipelines will ensure effective drainage across platforms and common areas to avoid waterlogging.

The project will include constructing a dedicated electrical panel room to support reliable power management and operational safety. Structural steel works, including trusses and framed sections, will be executed using riveted, bolted, or welded systems with primer coatings to enhance durability. Reinforced concrete works will cover beams, suspended floors, roofs, staircases, lintels, and chajjas up to the fifth floor level to maintain structural stability.

Water supply systems will be upgraded with CPVC pipelines suitable for hot and cold water, brass-threaded fittings, and secure clamping. Stainless steel inverted conical basins will improve hygiene and long-term durability. These improvements aim to meet the needs of a growing commuter base as surrounding areas continue to develop.

Officials emphasized that the upgrade is designed to strengthen the station's core facilities rather than provide only cosmetic changes. By focusing on practical improvements such as drainage, roofing, platform resurfacing, and better electrical and water systems, the project aims to create a safer and more comfortable environment for daily passengers.
