The Andhra Pradesh government has advanced Amaravati's development by launching phase II of the capital city project, covering nearly 16,000 acres under the land pooling scheme. Global consultancy firms have been invited to prepare a master plan integrating infrastructure, zoning, and economic strategies. The plan prioritizes residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, and green zones, along with major facilities like a global sports arena and an international airport. The initiative aims to prevent unplanned growth, provide long-term value for landowners, and ensure seamless integration with the existing phase I layout.
The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a decisive step to accelerate Amaravati's growth by moving forward with phase II of the capital city master plan. Following the launch of the land pooling scheme phase II, nearly 16,000 acres in the capital region will now be brought under structured development. The government aims to expand the capital's footprint in an organized manner while offering tangible benefits to landowners.
Global consultancy firms with expertise in large-scale urban planning have been invited to prepare the phase II master plan. The plan will provide a comprehensive framework for land use, infrastructure, and economic planning, building on the foundations laid in phase I. Residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, and green zones will be clearly demarcated to prevent unregulated construction and ensure orderly development.
Infrastructure integration is central to the plan, covering major road networks, mass transit corridors, water supply systems, sewerage, drainage, and power distribution. Key facilities such as a global sports arena and an international airport are highlighted as priorities to support connectivity and economic activity in the region.
Officials emphasized that the rollout of the land pooling scheme phase II is designed to offer developed plots, civic amenities, and long-term value appreciation to landowners. The selected consultancy will use GIS-based mapping, satellite imagery, and on-ground surveys to prepare a scientifically robust plan that aligns with future population growth and economic trends.
Phase II will also ensure continuity with the phase I layout, which was originally prepared free of cost by Singapore-based Surbana Jurong on the request of the then Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu. The government's renewed efforts follow years of uncertainty, including the exit of international firms from the project after the regime change in 2019, demonstrating a focused commitment to structured development of the capital city.
