Suzlon has secured a 248.5 MW wind project order from ArcelorMittal Group, marking its fourth major order aimed at decarbonising steel production in India. Part of a larger 550 MW hybrid project at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel facilities in Gujarat, the wind capacity will be used for captive consumption. Over the past year, Suzlon has partnered with leading steelmakers to support low-carbon steel initiatives. Both companies view the collaboration as a step toward accelerating green steel production and promoting sustainability in the Indian steel sector.
Suzlon has received its first order from the ArcelorMittal Group for a 248.5 MW wind energy project, which will be implemented as part of a larger hybrid initiative at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel facilities in Bachau, Gujarat. This project marks Suzlon's fourth significant wind energy order aimed at supporting decarbonisation in steel manufacturing, increasing its contribution to around 1,156 MW of green steel capacity across India, according to the company.
Over the past year, Suzlon has collaborated with major steelmakers to advance low-carbon steel production in the country. The order comes through ArcelorMittal Group's Renewable Energy entity in India and forms part of a broader 550 MW hybrid project in Gujarat, with the wind component intended for captive use at the steel facilities.
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, highlighted that renewable energy has emerged as a practical and competitive solution for decarbonising the steel sector. He emphasized Suzlon's commitment to facilitating this transition through strong partnerships and industry coalitions, including the Indian Steel Green Council.
Amit Harlalka, Director at ArcelorMittal Sustainable Solutions India, noted that Suzlon's 30-year experience and proven reliability in wind energy made it the preferred partner for this project. He added that the collaboration reflects a shared vision of accelerating green steel production and fostering a sustainable future for India.
