The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its property tax recovery drive, initiating strict enforcement action against defaulters by sealing three commercial properties in Nerul earlier this week. The action forms part of a citywide campaign aimed at accelerating tax collections and addressing long-pending arrears. Civic officials said the crackdown follows repeated appeals and notices issued to property owners who failed to clear outstanding dues. Acting under the directions of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Kailas Shinde, the civic administration has adopted a zero-tolerance approach, signalling that no concessions will be extended to chronic defaulters. The corporation has constituted dedicated attachment teams across ward offices and indicated that the drive will be expanded across Navi Mumbai, with direct sealing and seizure of properties wherever dues remain unpaid.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has stepped up enforcement measures to recover pending property tax dues, sealing three commercial properties in Nerul as part of an intensified recovery campaign. The action was carried out earlier this week as the civic body moved into what it described as an action mode to deal with long-standing defaulters who have ignored repeated notices and appeals.
The enforcement drive was undertaken by the property tax department under the directions of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Kailas Shinde. The operation was supervised by Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Commissioner Dr Amol Palve, with a dedicated attachment team executing the sealing of defaulting properties. Civic officials said the action marked the beginning of a broader, citywide effort to strengthen tax collection and improve municipal revenues.
According to the municipal administration, property owners who repeatedly fail to clear outstanding dues will now face direct and uncompromising action, without any relaxation or negotiation. To ensure effective implementation, the corporation has constituted special attachment squads and prepared a structured plan covering all ward offices across Navi Mumbai. Notices have already been issued to defaulters, and field teams have begun visiting properties with outstanding dues.
Officials indicated that properties with unpaid taxes will be directly sealed and attached by the respective ward-level recovery teams. The campaign is expected to be rolled out in a phased but expansive manner, covering both commercial and other taxable properties across the city.
Property tax remains one of the most critical sources of revenue for the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, funding essential civic infrastructure and services such as roads, sanitation, water supply, education and other urban amenities. Despite repeated reminders and formal notices, the civic body noted that a section of property owners has continued to delay or avoid tax payments, affecting the corporation's financial planning and service delivery.
To address this, the administration is focusing on accurate data mapping of defaulters, zone-wise planning and time-bound enforcement. Progress is being reviewed on a daily basis at the ward level to ensure consistency and accountability in recovery efforts. The civic body has urged property owners to clear outstanding dues at the earliest, noting that timely payment can help avoid coercive measures such as sealing and attachment.
