The Uttar Pradesh government has approved around INR 1,000 crore to accelerate construction of phases 3 and 4 of the Lucknow Green Corridor, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve urban connectivity. Previous phases are operational or nearing completion, but delays due to funding constraints had slowed progress. The new allocation will support key flyovers, railway overbridge sections, and link roads, enhancing access to major routes like Shaheed Path and Kisan Path. Officials expect faster completion timelines, which will benefit daily commuters, reduce travel delays, and strengthen the city's transport network.
The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned approximately INR 1,000 crore to speed up work on phases 3 and 4 of the Lucknow Green Corridor, a key infrastructure project designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the city. Officials stated that the additional funding will remove financial bottlenecks that had delayed progress and enable faster construction of essential stretches, including flyovers and link roads connecting major junctions.
The project, managed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), has already seen progress in earlier phases. Phase 1, from Basantkunj to Pakka Pul, is operational, and phase 2, extending to Samta Mulak crossing, is nearing completion. Several segments are expected to open to traffic soon.
Phase 3 will include a flyover from Baikunth Dham to La Martiniere Boys College to reduce congestion at the 1090 crossing by allowing through traffic to bypass the junction. Phase 4 involves a 2.20 km flyover linking the Green Corridor with G20 Road, improving access to heavily used routes like Shaheed Path and Kisan Path. These stretches carry significant long distance and freight traffic, and the new phases are expected to ease bottlenecks for daily commuters.
Earlier financial limitations had slowed construction of phase 2, particularly the railway overbridge section and the Daliganj to Pakka Pul stretch, initially scheduled for completion earlier this year. With the latest budget allocation, tenders for remaining works are being finalized, with authorities targeting completion of phases 2 through 4 by mid 2026.
Officials highlighted that, despite the operation of outer corridors like Shaheed Path and Kisan Path, inner-city connectivity issues persisted. These new phases aim to address those gaps, enabling smoother travel for residents and supporting the city's growing vehicle population, now exceeding 20 lakh registrations.
