NMMC demolishes illegal hutments in Sanpada's Turbhe division

Synopsis

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a decisive anti-encroachment drive in the Turbhe division, targeting newly erected illegal structures on open land in Sanpada. Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, the demolition was undertaken to curb unauthorized development and protect public land. The operation resulted in the removal of around eight illegal hutments and was executed with adequate manpower, machinery and police support to ensure smooth implementation. Civic officials reiterated that such enforcement actions will continue with greater intensity in the future to deter encroachments and maintain planned urban development across Navi Mumbai.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has intensified its efforts to curb unauthorized constructions by carrying out a demolition drive in the Turbhe division. The action was undertaken under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, with guidance from Additional Municipal Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr. Kailas Gaikwad.


As part of the operation, the encroachment department conducted a demolition drive on December 22, 2025, in Sector 17, Sanpada, Navi Mumbai. The action focused on newly constructed illegal hutments that had come up on an open plot within the municipal limits. During the drive, approximately eight unauthorized hutments were removed to prevent further encroachment on public land.

The demolition exercise was carried out in the presence of Assistant Municipal Commissioner and Divisional Officer of Turbhe, Sagar More, along with other officers and staff from the Turbhe division. To ensure law and order during the operation, police officers and constables from the encroachment removal squad were deployed, along with security personnel from the encroachment department.

For the effective execution of the drive, one JCB machine and a workforce of around 20 labourers were engaged. The coordinated effort ensured that the demolition was conducted efficiently and without disruption.

Civic officials have stated that such anti-encroachment actions will be intensified in the future to prevent the recurrence of illegal constructions. The municipal corporation has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public land, enforcing urban planning regulations and maintaining orderly development across Navi Mumbai.
