The Odisha government has unveiled plans to develop three major ring roads with a combined length of 645 km to strengthen connectivity and spur industrial and economic growth across the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip Economic Region. The proposal was discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The road network includes a 432-km outer ring road linking Paradip and Puri, a 148-km regional ring road connecting Cuttack and Khurda, and a 65-km inner ring road in Khurda district. Alongside road infrastructure, the state is also considering new railway lines to boost regional integration, tourism development, and the creation of urban growth hubs.
The Odisha government is planning three ring roads, cumulatively 645 km long, as part of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip Economic Region. The plan was made public at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday.
A 432-km ring road will be constructed from Paradip to Puri via Tangi, Saptasajya and Rameswar. It will be built in coordination with the Centre's proposed 111-km Capital Region Ring Road, an official statement said.
Another 148-km ring road will be developed from Cuttack to Khorda via Balipatna, Pipili and Jatni. In addition, a 65-km inner ring road will be constructed in Tamando in Khurda district via Chandaka, Pahal and Dhauli.
Apart from road infrastructure, there is also a proposal for a 32-km railway line from Puri to Konark and a 70-km line from Konark to Bhubaneswar via Nimapada.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office, the road projects are expected to drive significant industrial growth in the region. The Chief Minister suggested that officers prepare special plans to develop cities within this region as growth hubs and directed them to maintain regular coordination with NITI Aayog to expedite the project.
He also asked officials to pay special attention to tourism development in the region. The meeting was attended by Housing and Urban Development Minister KC Mohapatra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and Development Commissioner Anu Garg.
