Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has introduced a centralised digital property registry to shift property records from fragmented manual systems to a unified GIS-based platform. The system will create verified digital profiles for every property, capturing ownership details, building data, permits, utility connections and inspection history. Property records will be accessible through QR codes and a citizen portal, allowing real-time updates and verification. The initiative aims to improve transparency, reduce data discrepancies, strengthen property tax administration and simplify citizen interaction with municipal services.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has initiated the rollout of a centralised digital property registry to modernise the way property records are maintained and accessed across the city. The platform will replace fragmented and manual systems with a GIS-enabled digital framework that links spatial data with administrative records, allowing every property to be mapped, monitored and verified through a single system.
Each property will be assigned a comprehensive digital profile capturing ownership details, property tax identification number (PTIN), building classification, usage type, number of floors, dwelling units and approved construction permissions. The registry will also integrate trade licences, water and electricity connections, inspection reports, photographs and historical records, ensuring that all relevant data is available on one interface.
A key feature of the system is the use of QR codes for on-ground verification. Once a QR code affixed to a property is scanned, authorised field staff will be able to access the full digital profile, conduct inspections and update records in real time. These updates will be geo-tagged and time-stamped, allowing supervisory teams to track changes and verify compliance without delays or paperwork.
The digital registry will also offer a citizen-facing portal, enabling property owners to view their records, request corrections, submit applications and pay dues online. Officials indicated that inconsistencies between declared and actual property details will be automatically flagged, allowing quicker resolution and reducing disputes related to assessment and taxation.
GHMC has invited bids for the development, implementation and maintenance of the platform, including the mobile application for QR-based access.
