Synopsis

KEC International has received interim relief from the Delhi High Court, which has allowed the company to participate in ongoing project bids, including those floated by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. The court kept PGCIL's earlier order barring KEC from tenders in abeyance and directed the utility to issue a fresh decision after considering the company's response to a show cause notice. The order enables KEC to continue bidding while the matter is reviewed. PGCIL contributes a smaller share to KEC's current order book compared to last year.

KEC International has said the Delhi High Court has permitted the company to take part in ongoing project bids, including tenders floated by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL). The relief comes after the court intervened in a matter related to restrictions imposed by PGCIL on the infrastructure engineering firm.

PGCIL, a state-owned power transmission company, had earlier barred KEC International from participating in its tenders for a period of nine months. This restriction was imposed through an order issued in the past month. The ban had raised concerns given KEC's active role in large transmission and infrastructure projects across India and overseas.

Following a petition filed by KEC International, the Delhi High Court examined the company's submissions. In its order passed in the past week, the court placed the PGCIL directive in abeyance. The court directed that the earlier order would remain suspended until PGCIL issues a fresh or supplementary order that clearly addresses all points raised by KEC in its response to the show cause notice issued by the power utility.

The court further allowed KEC International to continue participating in all ongoing bids, including those of PGCIL, until the transmission major completes the reconsideration process as directed. This effectively restores the company's eligibility to compete for projects during the interim period.

KEC International has been focusing on diversifying its order book and reducing dependence on any single client. In the past month, the company had reported an order intake of INR 17,066 crore in the year-to-date period of FY26, marking a year-on-year growth of 17 per cent. Orders from PGCIL accounted for around 4 per cent of the total order inflow during the current financial year, significantly lower than the 27 per cent contribution seen in the previous year.
