Tata group's Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) will open its first Taj hotel in Cairo, a 300-key property at Opera Square featuring dining, wellness, and event facilities. The move aligns with IHCL's international growth strategy, targeting key global gateway cities. Cairo's historical and strategic location makes it an ideal choice, noted IHCL CEO Puneet Chhatwal. The property, owned by state enterprise EGOTH, will be redeveloped to international standards, combining local legacy with IHCL's hospitality expertise. This marks a continued push for Taj's presence globally, following successful expansions in London, New York, and Dubai.
Tata group's hospitality arm, Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), has announced its first Taj hotel in Egypt, signing an agreement for a 300-key property in Cairo. The hotel will be situated at Opera Square in the heart of the capital and will feature all-day dining, specialty restaurants, wellness facilities, and banqueting spaces suitable for corporate events and social gatherings.
IHCL Managing Director and CEO Puneet Chhatwal said that introducing the Taj brand in Cairo supports the company's international growth strategy, focusing on key gateway cities while extending the brand's signature warm and sincere service. He highlighted the significance of Cairo, noting that the city's rich cultural heritage and strategic location at the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East, and Europe have made it a longstanding hub for tourism and global trade.
The property is owned by the Egyptian General Company for Tourism & Hotels (EGOTH), a state-owned enterprise responsible for the development, ownership, and revitalization of landmark hospitality and tourism assets across Egypt. EGOTH CEO Hisham El Demery emphasized that the company aims to honor the legacy of this iconic landmark through thoughtful redevelopment and world-class standards. He added that partnering with IHCL brings trusted international expertise, creating a destination that will enhance Cairo's tourism landscape and support its ongoing revitalization.
The announcement marks another step in IHCL's global expansion, following earlier international ventures in cities like London, New York, and Dubai, where the Taj brand has established a reputation for luxury and cultural experiences. This project also strengthens ties between Indian and Egyptian tourism initiatives, bringing together expertise from both countries to attract international travelers.
