Synopsis

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister has confirmed that infrastructure projects worth nearly INR 2 lakh crore are progressing across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with a strong focus on Ambarnath and Badlapur. Key initiatives include Metro Line 14, connecting Kanjurmarg to Badlapur, and enhancements to suburban railways between Kalyan and Badlapur. The upgrades aim to increase train frequency, introduce air-conditioned services on all local trains, and improve overall connectivity. These projects are part of a wider regional development plan to boost mobility, commuter convenience, and urban growth across MMR.

The Maharashtra government has stepped up its efforts to develop infrastructure across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with nearly INR 2 lakh crore worth of projects underway. Ambarnath and Badlapur are among the key areas set to benefit from enhanced connectivity through upcoming metro and railway projects.

The long-awaited Metro Line 14, which will link Kanjurmarg to Badlapur, is expected to begin construction in the next four months. Alongside this, Metro Lines 5 and 12 are also progressing, aiming to ease daily commuting and support broader urban development. These corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility for residents of Ambarnath, Badlapur, and surrounding areas.

The Chief Minister emphasized that once the third and fourth railway lines between Kalyan and Badlapur are operational, local trains will run at intervals of approximately every 10 minutes. This upgrade is intended to substantially improve suburban rail services and manage the growing passenger load efficiently. Additionally, the state government has requested 238 new train rakes, which will allow all ordinary local trains to be converted into air-conditioned services without increasing fares.

Alongside transportation improvements, civic leadership is also being strengthened. A young, educated candidate, who is a chartered accountant, has been fielded for the Ambarnath Municipal Council presidency to ensure transparency and accountability in local governance. These initiatives, according to the Chief Minister, are aligned with the broader development goals for the Mumbai metropolitan area, aiming to make Ambarnath a pivotal hub within the region.

The development push is supported by senior political leaders, including the BJP state president and the Forest Minister, who joined the Chief Minister at a public meeting in Ambarnath to present the government’s infrastructure agenda. These efforts form part of a sustained focus on improving mobility, commuter convenience, and regional economic growth across MMR.
