The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has replaced the Geographical Information Survey (GIS) for house area calculations with self-assessment forms. Property owners can now evaluate their own properties for tax assessment. The PMC initiated self-assessment for house tax calculation, with detailed forms available at zonal offices and PMC campus. Owners must provide accurate details including property type, area measurements, and occupancy status. Failure to provide accurate information may lead to penalties. Local corporators will aid in the process, and forms must be submitted by October 31, 2023. The change aims to streamline taxation and enhance accuracy.
In a significant development, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken the decision to replace the Geographical Information Survey (GIS) for house area calculations with a new approach. The authorities have introduced self-assessment forms for land and house owners, allowing them to evaluate their own properties for tax assessment.

The PMC's move comes after the cancellation of the GIS survey, which had been in operation for the past four years to determine the area of various houses across the city. The decision was taken during a recent session of the municipal corporation.
With the cancellation of the GIS survey report, the PMC has initiated a system of self-assessment for house tax calculation. The new self-assessment forms can be obtained from zonal offices and the PMC campus starting this Thursday.
House or land owners wishing to avail of this self-assessment facility are required to fill out the provided forms with meticulous details. These details include the owner's name, house number, ward number, colony name, zone number, and computer code. Additionally, information about the total area of the plot or land, the constructed area of the house, the number of floors, the carpet area, and the nature of the property (residential, commercial, or mixed-use) are also to be specified.
Moreover, property owners are to declare whether the property is self-residing, tenanted, or both, along with the year of construction. The forms must be submitted along with a photocopy of the last paid house tax receipt and a self-attested copy of the owner's Aadhar card.
The PMC authorities have emphasized the importance of accurate information submission, particularly regarding carpet and covered areas. Inaccurate submissions could result in punitive measures under subsection 8 of the UP Nagar Nigam, Samatikar Niyamavali 2000 for concealing facts.
Corporator Menu Tiwari conveyed that local corporators will assist house owners in completing the self-assessment process. She further emphasized that forms must be submitted to the relevant MC authorities on or before October 31, 2023.
This shift from the GIS survey to self-assessment marks a significant change in the city's taxation procedures, with the PMC aiming to streamline the process and enhance accuracy in property tax assessments.
