Synopsis

A local court in Goa has granted interim anticipatory bail to members of the Models Group and their family in connection with an ongoing Enforcement Directorate investigation into an alleged land-grabbing case. The move offers temporary legal protection against arrest as the ED's probe continues, with defence counsel arguing that the complaint dates back many years and involves civil disputes alongside regulatory scrutiny related to alleged manipulation of land records.

A court in Goa has granted interim anticipatory bail to Natalina Vaz and her children, who are associated with Models Group, in relation to an Enforcement Directorate investigation into an alleged land-grabbing case. The order shields the applicants from arrest while the federal probe continues.

Defence counsel argued that the underlying FIR was filed many years ago and that, at the time of the complaint's registration, the accused were neither formally associated with the construction company nor named in the FIR. They also maintained that the matter primarily involves civil disputes and that the individuals had cooperated with the ED by providing documents in their possession when summoned.

The ED's investigation arises from a complaint alleging a conspiracy to illegally usurp agricultural land in the Goa region, with claims that revenue records were allegedly falsified to effect unauthorised transfer of title and facilitate subsequent development activities. Authorities have been conducting search and seizure operations as part of the probe, examining land records and related documents, and reviewing transactions linked to the disputed property.

The anticipatory bail order provides temporary relief as the ED continues to pursue its inquiry under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, with further legal proceedings expected to assess the substantive allegations and the extent of involvement by the individuals granted bail.
