Synopsis

The underground section of Patna Metro's Blue Line, part of Corridor II, is making steady progress and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Stretching 7.9 km from Rajendra Nagar to Patna Junction, it will feature six underground stations. Four tunnel boring machines are actively working, with around 2 km of tunnelling remaining. Civil construction at the stations has reached about 40 percent. Once completed, this section will seamlessly connect with the operational elevated corridor, extending metro services along the full 14 km route and enhancing urban transit across the city.

Construction on the underground stretch of Patna Metro's Blue Line, which forms the north-south Corridor II of the city's metro system, is progressing steadily and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. The 7.9 km section begins near Rajendra Nagar and extends to Patna Junction, incorporating six underground stations that will serve key areas along the route. The project aims to improve urban mobility, offering faster, more reliable metro services across the city.


Four advanced tunnel boring machines are engaged in creating twin tunnels for the underground stretch. Engineers report that most of the tunnelling has been completed, with approximately 2 km still to be excavated. A breakthrough at the PMCH station has already been achieved, and work is ongoing to link all key segments, including the stretch toward Gandhi Maidan and Rajendra Nagar. Tunnelling is being carried out alongside strict monitoring to ensure safety and structural integrity.

Station construction is advancing simultaneously, with civil work completed at about 40 percent of all six stations. Once tunnelling finishes, track laying, electrical and mechanical installations, and finishing work will follow. The stations are being designed for passenger convenience, safety, and accessibility, with modern facilities, wide concourses, and efficient entry exit points.

The underground section will connect directly with the elevated portion of Corridor II, parts of which began partial operations in late 2025. Once fully operational, the Blue Line will run from Patna Junction to the Patliputra Inter State Bus Terminal, spanning 14 km and integrating both elevated and underground sections. This connection will expand metro coverage, reduce traffic congestion, and improve daily commuting options for residents.

The entire metro project includes two corridors, with elevated and underground segments designed to meet modern urban transit standards. Construction funding is a mix of state and central resources, along with international loans. Contractors are actively coordinating tunnelling, station construction, track work, and electrical and mechanical installations to meet the scheduled timelines. Officials say the project will also follow environmental guidelines, aiming for energy-efficient stations and minimal disruption to city life during construction.
