Synopsis

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor recently approved the transfer of Delhi Jal Board land to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, enabling construction of a key viaduct for the Rithala-Narela-Kundli Metro corridor under Phase IV. Fifty square metres of land at Rithala's sewage treatment plant will be permanently leased for 99 years, while 1,286 square metres will be provided temporarily for four years. DMRC will pay INR 75.50 lakh for both allotments. The corridor, featuring 21 elevated stations, aims to improve connectivity between Delhi and Haryana, ease congestion, and support Narela's development as a residential and educational hub.

The Delhi Lieutenant Governor has approved the allotment of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) land to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the Rithala-Narela-Kundli Metro corridor, removing a significant delay in Phase IV development. This decision allows the construction of a critical viaduct between Rithala and Rohini Sector 25, which had been pending for several years due to land issues.

Under the approval, 50 square metres of land at the Rithala sewage treatment plant will be permanently leased to DMRC on a 99 year term. Additionally, 1,286 square metres will be temporarily provided for four years to facilitate construction activities. DMRC will pay INR 12.28 lakh for the permanent allotment and INR 63.21 lakh for the temporary allotment, totaling INR 75.50 lakh. Officials have emphasized that DMRC will use the land solely for construction and related purposes.

The Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor is designed to strengthen connectivity between Delhi and Haryana, particularly in north-west Delhi areas like Rohini, Bawana, and Narela, which face heavy traffic congestion and pollution. Integrating with the existing Red Line, the corridor will have 21 elevated stations and improve public transport for commuters across the National Capital Region.

The metro line is expected to support Narela's broader development, including residential projects, educational facilities, and sports infrastructure. By enhancing transport connectivity, it will ease travel for daily commuters, reduce vehicular congestion, and provide long-term growth opportunities for the surrounding regions.
