Western Railway has opened a new digital lounge and co-working facility at Mumbai Central station to enhance passenger experience and meet growing demand for flexible workspaces. Covering 1,712 sq ft, the lounge offers high speed internet, modular workstations, video conferencing rooms, charging points, and comfortable seating. Operated under the INEJ Lounge brand, it also provides self serve refreshments and upgraded washrooms. The project is expected to generate around INR 3.2 crore in non fare revenue over five years, with potential expansion to other major stations based on demand.
Western Railway has introduced a digital lounge and co-working space at Mumbai Central station to improve passenger amenities and provide modern work options for commuters and business travellers. The facility, developed by the Commercial Department of Western Railway's Mumbai Division, is operated by Ten11 Hospitality LLP under the INEJ Lounge brand and spans 1,712 square feet.
The lounge is designed to support flexible working needs, with features including high speed WiFi, modular workstations, dedicated meeting and conference rooms, video conferencing areas, multiple charging points, and comfortable seating arrangements. Passengers can use these facilities to work, hold meetings, or conduct virtual calls while waiting for trains. Light self serve refreshments and upgraded washrooms are also available, adding convenience for users.
Western Railway officials highlighted that this initiative is aimed at business travellers, remote workers, and professionals who increasingly require productive spaces at transit hubs. The lounge reflects changing passenger behaviour, where waiting times are now seen as opportunities to work efficiently.
The project is expected to generate approximately INR 3.2 crore in non fare revenue over five years. Depending on passenger feedback and operational results, similar lounges may be introduced at other major railway stations across the country, expanding the reach of this modern facility.
This development follows previous efforts by Western Railway to modernize key stations and enhance passenger services, including earlier announcements to create digital lounges at major stations, demonstrating a continued focus on improving the overall travel experience.
The lounge also strengthens Western Railway's strategy to diversify revenue streams while aligning with global trends in work friendly transit infrastructure. It provides a model for integrating technology, convenience, and comfort within a busy station environment, addressing both business needs and passenger satisfaction.
