Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has won a INR 165.04 crore contract from North Eastern Railway to construct the substructure of Bridge No. 50 over the Gandak River, located between Paniyahwa and Valmikinagar stations on the Gorakhpur Cantt Valmikinagar section. The project, part of railway doubling works, includes a 14-span bridge on Double D-type well foundations, designed for double-line operations with 25-tonne axle load capacity. Scheduled for completion in 24 months, the project aims to enhance rail connectivity and operational efficiency in the region. RVNL continues expanding its infrastructure footprint despite a recent dip in net profits.
Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a state-owned infrastructure company under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a INR 165.04 crore contract from North Eastern Railway to build the substructure of a critical railway bridge over the Gandak River in Uttar Pradesh. The contract covers Bridge No. 50, situated between Paniyahwa and Valmikinagar stations on the Gorakhpur Cantt Valmikinagar section, forming part of the railway doubling initiative to increase line capacity and operational efficiency. The work is expected to be completed over 24 months.
The bridge is designed with 14 spans of 61 metres each, supported on Double D-type well foundations. It will accommodate double-line operations and conform to Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) standards for 25-tonne axle loads, allowing heavier freight and passenger trains to operate safely. The project forms a vital link in the 95.95 km Gorakhpur Cantt Valmikinagar route, aimed at improving regional connectivity and rail network resilience.
RVNL undertakes a variety of railway infrastructure projects including new lines, doubling, gauge conversion, electrification, metro works, bridges, and institutional buildings. The company reported a 19.73% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to INR 230.29 crore in Q2 FY26, even as revenue from operations increased by 5.22% to INR 5,122.98 crore. Despite this, RVNL's order book continues to grow, reflecting steady demand for railway infrastructure projects across India.
The project emphasizes technical precision, with engineering standards ensuring that the bridge can handle current and future rail traffic efficiently. By executing this contract, RVNL reinforces its role in strengthening railway infrastructure in northern India, supporting both operational safety and regional development.
