Synopsis

The Centre is moving ahead with the development of PM MITRA parks as large, integrated textile manufacturing hubs, with detailed project reports worth about INR 5,567 crore completed for three proposed locations. These include greenfield parks in Lucknow, Kalaburagi and Navsari, each spread over more than 1,000 acres. The projects are being planned under a public-private partnership model to attract master developers for design, construction, financing and operations. The PM MITRA scheme aims to strengthen India's textile value chain by creating scale, improving infrastructure and reducing logistics costs. Once operational, these mega textile parks are expected to support manufacturing, processing and allied activities while boosting competitiveness and employment in the sector.

The Centre is progressing with the development of PM MITRA parks as large, integrated textile hubs, with detailed project reports valued at about INR 5,567 crore already completed for three proposed locations. The information was shared during a recent stakeholder consultation held by the Ministry of Textiles in coordination with the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation.

The update was provided by Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles, while outlining the current status of project preparation. The consultation focused on identifying partnership opportunities for developing PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel parks under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer model.

Discussions during the meeting were centred on attracting potential master developers for three greenfield textile parks planned in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, Kalaburagi in Karnataka, and Navsari in Gujarat. Each of the proposed parks in Lucknow and Kalaburagi spans around 1,000 acres, while the Navsari project covers approximately 1,142 acres, making it the largest among the three.

According to the commerce and industry ministry, the detailed project reports for these locations have already been finalized under the public-private partnership route. These reports lay out infrastructure planning, land development, and core facilities required to support textile manufacturing, processing, and allied activities at a single location.

The PM MITRA scheme is part of the government's broader effort to strengthen India's textile value chain by creating scale, reducing logistics costs, and improving competitiveness. Earlier, seven PM MITRA parks were approved across Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, with the aim of positioning India as a global textile manufacturing hub.
