Synopsis

The Delhi government has invited tenders to develop two new city forests at Kharkhari Jatmal and Mukhmelpur as part of its wider green cover expansion plan. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department has issued tenders worth a combined INR 2.76 crore, with INR 1.47 crore allocated for Kharkhari Jatmal and INR 1.29 crore for Mukhmelpur. The projects include infrastructure development, land protection, and long-term maintenance and form part of the government's plan to develop 17 city forests across nearly 195 acres.

The Delhi government has moved forward with its plan to increase urban green spaces by floating tenders for the development of two new city forests at Kharkhari Jatmal in southwest Delhi and Mukhmelpur in the northwest. The tenders have been issued by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, according to official tender documents.

The combined estimated cost of the two projects stands at INR 2.76 crore. Contractors registered with the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Central Public Works Department, Military Engineering Services, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited are eligible to participate in the bidding process.

For the Kharkhari Jatmal city forest, the government has earmarked INR 1.47 crore. The scope of work includes construction of a boundary wall, development of walking tracks, installation of benches, toilet facilities, electrification, sanitation works, and a guard room. The contractor will be required to complete the work within 180 days from the date the site is handed over or the work order is issued, whichever is later. In addition, the contractor must maintain the forest area for a period of five years without any extra financial provision.

The second project at Mukhmelpur has an estimated cost of INR 1.29 crore. The tender focuses on the protection of forest land and development of the forest area in line with CPWD specifications and the approved schedule of quantities. Unlike Kharkhari Jatmal, the tender does not specify individual facilities but outlines overall development and safeguarding of the forest site. The work is to be completed within six months from the date the land is made available.

These two projects are part of a larger initiative by the Delhi government to develop 17 city forests covering nearly 195 acres across the capital. Most of these forests will be developed under the Namo Van model, which involves planting native tree species at defined intervals. Two sites will follow the Miyawaki method, which uses dense plantation techniques to create fast-growing green cover.
