Tripura has taken a key step toward strengthening its industrial rail infrastructure after the Centre approved the final location survey for a proposed railway line connecting Jirania with the Bodhjungnagar industrial estate in West Tripura. The 14-km project, with the survey estimated at INR 42 lakh, is expected to improve freight movement and industrial connectivity. State officials believe the rail link will support logistics efficiency for existing industries and encourage future investments in the region while improving overall rail connectivity within the state.
Tripura's transport department has welcomed the Centre's decision to approve the final location survey for a new railway line connecting Jirania to the Bodhjungnagar industrial estate in West Tripura. The Ministry of Railways cleared the survey for the proposed 14-km stretch, with an estimated cost of INR 42 lakh, as confirmed by the Northeast Frontier Railway.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the approval marks an important development for the state's infrastructure planning, particularly for industrial transport. He indicated that the proposed railway line would primarily serve industries operating in the Bodhjungnagar area, helping them move raw materials and finished goods more efficiently through the rail network.
The minister explained that completion of the final location survey is a necessary step before any construction work can begin. Once the project progresses beyond the survey stage, the rail link is expected to strengthen logistics support for the industrial estate and surrounding areas, which currently rely heavily on road transport for freight movement.
Officials also pointed out that Bodhjungnagar is one of Tripura's key industrial hubs, housing several manufacturing units. Improved rail connectivity is expected to reduce transportation costs over time and make the location more viable for future industrial expansion in West Tripura.
Chowdhury acknowledged the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha in supporting the clearance. He said coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state government have been important in advancing infrastructure projects aimed at economic growth and improved connectivity in the northeastern region.
