Synopsis

The suburban rail network in Navi Mumbai has been enhanced with additional trains and new stations to support growing commuter demand and improve access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The Uran line now operates 50 daily services, up from 40, with five new pairs of trains introduced. Two new stations, Targhar and Gavan, have started operations, improving connectivity for residential and industrial areas. Service hours have been extended across the corridor, offering commuters more travel flexibility. These upgrades aim to ease congestion and facilitate smoother daily travel.

Navi Mumbai's suburban rail services on the Belapur/Nerul Uran corridor have been strengthened with the addition of new trains and stations. Railway officials said five extra pairs of local trains have been introduced, increasing the total number of daily services on the Uran line from 40 to 50. This expansion aims to reduce congestion during peak hours and provide commuters with more options throughout the day.

Two new stations, Targhar and Gavan, have also been commissioned. Targhar, located close to the site of the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, is expected to significantly improve last-mile connectivity for passengers traveling to and from the airport area. Gavan station will serve nearby residential neighborhoods, enhancing access to suburban rail services for local communities.

Service hours on the corridor have been extended to provide greater flexibility. Trains from Uran now run from 5.35 am to 10.05 pm, while services from Belapur operate between 5.45 am and 10.15 pm. From Nerul, trains are available from 6.05 am to 9.30 pm. Officials said these adjustments in timing, along with the increased frequency and new stations, are designed to make commuting smoother and more convenient. Passengers have been advised to check the revised schedule when planning their journeys.

This expansion is part of ongoing efforts to improve transport infrastructure in Navi Mumbai, particularly in anticipation of increased activity around the upcoming international airport. The upgrades will not only enhance daily commuting but also support the region's broader urban development plans.
