Synopsis

Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is set to enlarge its tax coverage by incorporating 5,000 more properties into its purview. These properties will be allocated unique Property Tax Identification Numbers (PTINs) and seamlessly integrated into the SCB's tax wing records, alongside the existing 38,000 properties. This strategic step not only streamlines the tax identification process but also enhances the board's ability to manage taxes effectively. The move is anticipated to bolster the equitable distribution of tax responsibilities while accommodating a broader property spectrum under the SCB's jurisdiction.

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), grappling with financial constraints, has unveiled an innovative strategy aimed at identifying and assessing previously overlooked properties for taxation. Approximately 5,000 properties that escaped previous property tax evaluations are now under scrutiny as part of this pioneering effort.

To streamline the process, these properties will be allocated unique Property Tax Identification Numbers (PTINs) and seamlessly integrated into the SCB's existing tax records, which already encompass around 38,000 properties.

Leveraging advanced drone technology, officials executed this ambitious undertaking under the Svamitva program, capturing detailed images of the properties. Complementing this technological approach, a comprehensive door-to-door physical survey was conducted a few months earlier to ensure the accuracy and inclusivity of the collected data.

The absence of these properties from the tax records has allegedly resulted in a substantial shortfall in revenue for the exchequer. Encouragingly, optimistic projections indicate that the SCB could potentially amass an additional 10 crore during the forthcoming fiscal year's tax assessment, contingent upon the successful execution of the initiative.

Furthermore, SCB authorities are contemplating penalties for unauthorized structures that have deviated from the sanctioned plans of the engineering wing. Decisions concerning the potential demolition of these structures are anticipated in the near future. Simultaneously, the SCB is in the process of dispatching notices to impose a 1% penalty on overdue amounts owed by tax defaulters, underscoring the board's commitment to enhancing revenue streams for the municipality.
