Synopsis

Avenue Supermarts, which operates the DMart retail chain, reported an 18.28 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to INR 855.78 crore for the October-December 2025 quarter, driven by higher revenues. Consolidated revenue from operations grew to INR 18,100.88 crore, reflecting steady performance across its expanding network of neighbourhood supermarkets. While total expenses increased due to store operations, logistics, and inflation-linked costs, higher sales volumes supported profitability. DMart continues to expand across urban and semi-urban markets, supporting demand for retail real estate and local infrastructure. The company also announced a leadership transition, with Anshul Asawa set to take over as CEO and Managing Director from April 2026, following the completion of Ignatius Noronha's tenure.

Avenue Supermarts Ltd, which operates the DMart supermarket chain, reported an 18.28 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit to INR 855.78 crore for the third quarter ended December 2025, supported by higher revenue from operations.

The Mumbai-based company had posted a consolidated net profit of INR 723.54 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, according to a regulatory filing. The improvement in profitability came despite a rise in overall expenses during the quarter.

Consolidated revenue from operations during the October-December quarter stood at INR 18,100.88 crore, compared with INR 15,972.55 crore in the same period last year. The growth in revenue reflects steady performance across DMart's physical retail network, which continues to expand across urban and semi-urban markets.

Total expenses for the quarter increased to INR 16,942.62 crore from INR 15,001.64 crore a year earlier. Higher costs were in line with business expansion, store operations, employee expenses, logistics, and inflation-linked input costs. Despite this, the company was able to improve its bottom line due to higher sales volumes and operating efficiencies.

Avenue Supermarts operates DMart, one of India's largest supermarket chains, with stores typically located in high-footfall residential catchments. The company follows an ownership-led real estate strategy for a significant portion of its stores, which helps manage long-term occupancy costs and provides stability in operating margins. Its stores are usually anchored in neighbourhood shopping locations, often influencing surrounding residential and commercial real estate development.

During the quarter, the company did not disclose details on new store additions or capital expenditure. However, DMart continues to add stores steadily across key markets, driving demand for retail real estate in both established cities and emerging urban centres. Its expansion has also supported the development of supporting infrastructure such as parking, warehousing, and last-mile logistics facilities.

In a separate development, the board of Avenue Supermarts approved a leadership transition at the top level. The board has cleared the appointment of Anshul Asawa, currently CEO Designate, as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director for a term of three years, effective April 1, 2026. The appointment is subject to shareholder approval.

Asawa will succeed Ignatius Navil Noronha, who will step down as Managing Director and CEO on January 31, 2026, upon completion of his tenure. Noronha has led the company through a period of strong store expansion, revenue growth, and operational scaling.

Avenue Supermarts continues to be a key player in India's organised retail sector, where demand is closely linked to urbanisation, housing growth, and rising consumer spending. The company's performance is also watched closely by the real estate sector, as large-format grocery retailers like DMart play an important role in shaping neighbourhood retail ecosystems and driving foot traffic in residential zones.

With steady revenue growth, controlled costs, and an upcoming leadership transition, Avenue Supermarts remains focused on sustaining its expansion strategy while maintaining profitability in a competitive retail environment.
