The central government has announced plans to set up the seventh National Postal Training Centre in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, with an investment of INR 111 crore. The facility will strengthen India Post's training network, which currently trains around 2,000 personnel annually across six centres nationwide. The Shivpuri centre is expected to be completed within 8 to 12 months and will support capacity building while boosting local development. Alongside the announcement, renovated post offices were inaugurated and new Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48 services were launched. The project is likely to drive demand for institutional infrastructure, housing, and support services, positioning Shivpuri as an emerging administrative hub.
The central government has announced plans to establish the seventh National Postal Training Centre in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, with an investment of INR 111 crore. The proposed facility will add to India Post's existing network of six postal training centres located in Saharanpur, Vadodara, Mysuru, Guwahati, Madurai, and Darbhanga. These centres collectively train around 2,000 postal personnel every year and have trained nearly 18,000 officials and employees so far. The new centre at Shivpuri is expected to strengthen the overall training ecosystem of the Department of Posts.
Speaking in Shivpuri, the minister said the upcoming training centre will place the city among the country's key locations for postal training. He noted that the project will not only support capacity building within the postal department but also contribute to local development by bringing institutional infrastructure and associated activity to the region.
An official statement from the Ministry of Communications said the target is to complete the Shivpuri National Postal Training Centre within a period of 8 to 12 months. Senior postal officials have been directed to fast-track execution to meet the timeline. The minister also said that the foundation stone for the project will be laid during his next visit, followed by the inauguration within the stipulated timeframe.
In addition to the announcement, Scindia inaugurated six renovated post offices across different parts of Madhya Pradesh. These modernised facilities are part of the government's efforts to upgrade postal infrastructure and improve service delivery through better buildings, technology integration, and customer-focused layouts.
During a separate programme held in Pichhore in Shivpuri district, the minister announced two new India Post services Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48. These services are designed to offer guaranteed delivery within 24 hours and 48 hours, respectively. According to the ministry, the new offerings aim to set higher standards for time-bound and reliable delivery across the postal network.
The development of the training centre is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy. Large institutional projects often lead to demand for supporting infrastructure, including staff housing, rental accommodation, retail services, and improved civic amenities. Shivpuri's inclusion in the national postal training network is likely to enhance its visibility as an emerging institutional and administrative hub within Madhya Pradesh.
With continued investments in public infrastructure, training facilities, and service upgrades, the Department of Posts is positioning itself to meet evolving logistical and communication needs. The Shivpuri project marks another step in expanding government-led institutional development beyond major urban centres, supporting balanced regional growth.
