Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai handled a record 55.5 million passengers in 2025. Domestic traffic accounted for around 39.2 million passengers, while international travel reached approximately 16.3 million. This marked a 1.3 per cent increase over 2024 and a 7.6 per cent rise compared with 2023, according to an official statement from the airport.
Delhi remained the busiest domestic route, carrying 17 per cent of total local traffic, followed by Bengaluru at 10 per cent and Goa at 6 per cent. IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air were the main carriers managing domestic travel. On the international front, the Middle East led in passenger share, with Dubai alone accounting for 7.5 per cent. London also contributed 7.5 per cent, while Abu Dhabi and other major cities formed key overseas destinations. IndiGo, Air India, and Emirates were the top carriers for international flights.
January was the busiest month of the year, welcoming nearly 5 million passengers, followed closely by November with about 4.9 million travellers. The airport highlighted that November included its three busiest days of the year. The October-December quarter was the strongest period, marking the highest quarterly passenger traffic for the airport.
Connectivity expansions played a significant role in the growth. CSMIA introduced new international routes to cities such as Almaty, Manchester, Copenhagen, and Bali, while domestic services expanded to Adampur, Porbandar, and Solapur. Overall, the airport's strategic focus on adding routes and improving access has helped maintain strong growth across both domestic and international travel.
The airport also handled a record number of aircraft movements during the year, reflecting operational efficiency alongside growing passenger demand. These developments reinforce CSMIA's position as India's busiest hub for overseas travel and one of the country's key aviation gateways.
