Synopsis

Kolkata-based Texmaco Rail & Engineering has completed the hydro-mechanical systems for the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project at the Arunachal Pradesh Assam border. Acting as the sole contractor, the company managed design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the systems needed for eight units of 250 MW each. Unit 1 started wet commissioning in late October, while Unit 2 entered commercial operation in December 2025. The remaining units are planned for phased commissioning through the 2026-27 fiscal year, contributing significantly to India's renewable energy supply.

Texmaco Rail & Engineering has successfully completed the hydro-mechanical systems for the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project on the Arunachal Pradesh Assam border. The project is a major addition to India's renewable energy infrastructure, with eight generating units of 250 MW each. Power from the project will be supplied directly to the national grid, strengthening electricity supply in the region.

The company served as the sole contractor for these systems, overseeing their design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning. These hydro-mechanical systems are critical for the safe and efficient operation of the generating units, including gates, hoists, and other equipment that regulate water flow and unit performance.

The Subansiri Lower Project began commissioning in late 2025. Unit 1 started wet commissioning in October, followed by Unit 2, which declared commercial operation in December. The remaining four units are scheduled to be commissioned in phases through the 2026-27 fiscal year. This phased commissioning ensures the steady integration of power into the grid without interruptions.

Owned and developed by NHPC Limited, the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is one of India's largest hydropower projects. Texmaco's work demonstrates the capability of domestic engineering firms to handle complex infrastructure projects, providing critical systems required for operation.
