A recent inspection by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) found that most major roads in Noida had low or no visible dust, even though the city continues to face sustained air pollution and has not recorded a clean air day in recent months. Under Operation Clean Air, 142 road stretches were checked, with only a few showing high dust levels. Regular mechanical sweeping was cited as a key reason for improved conditions on arterial roads, while construction zones and damaged stretches remained areas of concern.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) conducted an inspection of key road stretches across Noida to assess dust levels and on-ground cleanliness as part of its ongoing Operation Clean Air drive. The exercise covered 142 roads and was carried out through surprise checks by CAQM teams. The findings showed that most major roads had low or no visible dust, even as air quality across the region continues to remain poor and no clean air day has been recorded in recent months.
According to the inspection report, only four road stretches were found to have high levels of visible dust, while 24 showed moderate dust levels. As many as 66 stretches recorded low dust intensity, and 48 were found to be free of visible dust. The inspection included several arterial and connector roads such as the stretch from Rajnigandha Chowk to Sectors 12 and 22, Film City to Sector 60, Kalindi Kunj to City Centre, the Noida Expressway, and internal roads in the 7x sectors.
Officials attributed the relatively cleaner condition of most roads to regular maintenance and the use of mechanical sweepers. The Noida Authority stated that mechanical sweeping is carried out daily across approximately 340 km of roads, which has helped in controlling dust on key stretches, particularly those with heavy traffic movement.
However, the inspection also identified specific locations where dust levels were higher. Sector 122 was flagged due to ongoing construction activity, while visible dust was also noted beneath the Bhangel elevated road, which was opened recently. The Yamuna Pushta road, described as damaged and poorly maintained, was another area where dust accumulation was observed. In some locations, the presence of municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris added to the problem.
Residents and local observers pointed out that while major roads appeared cleaner, several internal roads continue to suffer from uneven surfaces, potholes, cracks, and loose material. These conditions allow dust to rise when vehicles pass, especially in residential sectors with active construction. Such localised issues indicate that dust control measures remain inconsistent across different parts of the city.
CAQM has indicated that similar inspections will continue across Noida and the wider Delhi-NCR region. The authority aims to ensure strict compliance with dust control norms and sustained implementation of mitigation measures, particularly in construction zones and on poorly maintained roads, as part of broader efforts to manage air pollution.
