Authorities have launched a major crackdown on widespread illegal construction activity in the Raisina Hill area of New Delhi, targeting boundary walls, unauthorised roads and borewells that were developed without requisite approvals. In a bid to enforce planning norms and protect the sensitive hillside environment, enforcement teams demolished encroachments, removed unauthorised road work and sealed borewells that lacked legal clearances. The action aims to restore compliance with master plan regulations and prevent ad-hoc development that could compromise soil stability, drainage and landscape integrity in the ecologically vulnerable zone. A significant enforcement drive was carried out in the Raisina Hill area of New Delhi to curb rampant illegal construction activity that had proliferated along boundary walls, internal roads and borewell installations without proper statutory approvals. The operation, conducted jointly by civic and planning authorities, involved the demolition of unauthorised boundary walls, removal of unpermitted road surfaces and the sealing of borewells that were sunk without requisite environmental and municipal clearances.
Officials noted that the Raisina Hill zone, due to its topographical sensitivity and proximity to key government precincts, is subject to stringent land-use regulations under the city's master plan. However, recent inspections revealed a proliferation of ad-hoc construction, including boundary walls that encroached on setback areas, informal road alignments carved into slopes and borewells drilled outside approved zones. Such activities were found to violate critical guidelines designed to protect hillside stability, natural drainage and soil conditions.
As part of the enforcement action, boundary walls erected without sanctioned plans were razed to reinstate clearances and open spaces prescribed in planning norms. Similarly, unapproved connecting roads that had been cut into hill slopes were dismantled to mitigate risks of erosion and to preserve natural contours. Borewells installed without environmental approvals were sealed, emphasising adherence to groundwater regulation protocols and preventing uncontrolled extraction in areas with sensitive aquifer conditions.
Authorities underscored that the crackdown was not aimed at impeding development but at ensuring compliance with urban planning and environmental protocols that govern sensitive zones.
