Kishori Pednekar, former mayor of Mumbai and three term corporator, is intensifying her campaign in Ward 199 for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Representing the Shiv Sena (UBT), she is highlighting her previous civic work and her engagement with residents to reinforce her connection with voters. During the COVID19 pandemic, she actively participated in relief measures and ensured that essential civic services were maintained, a point she has emphasized throughout her campaign.
Pednekar has been visiting local areas such as Curry Road, Chinchpokli, Lower Parel, and Dhobi Ghat, engaging with residents about civic concerns and promising to continue addressing long-standing issues. She has highlighted her personal rapport with the electorate and asked voters to support her party's flame symbol during door-to-door interactions.
Her campaign has also received backing from allies, including leaders from MNS and NCP (SP), who joined her at local gatherings. She has emphasized unity among political leaders for the benefit of the Marathi community and pointed to her past work on essential civic projects, including water supply improvements and infrastructure maintenance.
A major aspect of Pednekar's campaign is her commitment to addressing persistent water supply problems in Ward 199. She is also focusing on the cluster redevelopment of MHADA residential buildings. Cluster redevelopment involves grouping multiple old buildings for comprehensive redevelopment, a method promoted by the Maharashtra government to improve living conditions and modernize infrastructure. Some of these redevelopment projects have already started in parts of the city under state urban development schemes.
Pednekar has been personally interacting with residents, including women and children, assuring them that the completion of pending civic works is a top priority. She has highlighted ongoing projects and stressed that water supply continuity, infrastructure upgrades, and housing improvements will remain central to her efforts.
In Ward 199, Pednekar is contesting against Rupal Kusale from Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), Shashikala Jaiswar from the Bahujan Samaj Party, and Nandini Jadhav from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi. The contest reflects strong competition in Mumbai's civic elections, which are crucial as the city returns to an elected civic administration after several years of interim governance.
Pednekar has also mentioned that her focus is not only on completing ongoing projects but on ensuring that redevelopment and local services continue in a systematic and efficient manner, benefiting both residents and the broader urban environment.
