Heavy snowfall in the Paris region disrupted air travel over the past week, leading France's civil aviation authority to instruct airlines to cancel around 15% of flights at Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly airports. The measure was introduced to manage runway conditions, aircraft de-icing, and overall safety during deteriorating weather. Airlines were allowed to decide which services to cancel. Passengers were advised to check flight updates and rely on public transport. Similar weather-related disruptions were also reported at major European airports, including Amsterdam's Schiphol.

The decision was taken as snowfall slowed runway clearance and increased the time required for aircraft de-icing, creating delays in both departures and arrivals. Airlines were given flexibility to choose which flights to cancel, provided the overall reduction target was met. Both domestic and international services were impacted, with passengers facing cancellations and rescheduling.
The French transport ministry advised travellers to check their flight status before heading to the airport and recommended using public transport instead of private vehicles, as road conditions around airport zones were also affected by snow accumulation.
The disruption in Paris followed a broader pattern of weather-related challenges across Europe. In the Netherlands, Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport experienced significant operational strain, with nearly 500 flights canceled and inbound traffic temporarily suspended due to similar snowy and icy conditions. These developments highlight the operational difficulties faced by major aviation hubs during peak winter weather.
