Synopsis

Flight operations across India were disrupted earlier this week due to dense fog, low visibility, and snowfall, prompting airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India to issue advisories for passengers. Flights to and from Leh were temporarily suspended due to heavy snowfall, while fog affected airports in cities including Bhopal, Udaipur, Hyderabad, Ranchi, Agartala, Dehradun, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, and Gorakhpur. Passengers were urged to check flight status, allow extra travel time, and use rebooking or refund options. Northern India faced a cold wave, with sub-zero temperatures in Kashmir and poor air quality in Delhi.

Flight schedules across several parts of India were affected earlier this week as dense fog, low visibility, and snowfall caused delays, cancellations, and longer waiting times for passengers. IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India issued advisories to alert travelers about the disruptions and suggested options for rebooking or refunds.

Heavy snowfall at Leh's Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport led to the suspension of all arrivals and departures. IndiGo stated that boarding formalities could be completed in advance so that flights could depart quickly once clearance is received. Similarly, SpiceJet noted that flights to and from Leh, along with consequential connections, could be impacted due to adverse weather. Passengers were encouraged to regularly check flight status before leaving for the airport.

Fog and poor visibility also affected flight operations at multiple airports. IndiGo highlighted potential disruptions in Bhopal, Udaipur, Hyderabad, Ranchi, Agartala, Dehradun, Guwahati, and Bhubaneswar, especially during early-morning hours. Gorakhpur faced similar issues, with SpiceJet advising travelers to monitor flights closely before heading to the airport. Airline teams were actively tracking weather conditions and updating passengers through official websites and mobile apps.

Winter conditions intensified across northern India, with Delhi recording a maximum of 17.3 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 7.4 degrees Celsius, below the seasonal average. Air quality in Delhi remained in the very poor category with an AQI of 307. Rajasthan experienced moderate to dense fog, with Fatehpur in Sikar district recording 1.1 degrees Celsius as the lowest temperature.

Kashmir continued to experience severe cold during Chilla-e-Kalan, the harshest winter phase. Srinagar recorded minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg remained the coldest at minus 6.5 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department forecasted light rain or snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh over the next couple of days, while Uttarakhand may also see rain or snow with the possibility of ground frost in isolated areas.

Airlines advised passengers to check flight status before leaving for the airport, allow extra travel time due to fog-related delays, and consider rebooking or refund options if flights were affected. Travelers were also urged to plan journeys carefully and stay updated through official airline channels as challenging weather conditions continue.
