The Delhi Public Works Department has received approval of INR 38 crore to carry out repair and rehabilitation work on the Zakira and Seelampur flyovers, two key traffic corridors in west and east Delhi. The sanction includes INR 20.18 crore for the Zakira Flyover and INR 17.85 crore for the Seelampur Flyover. The scope covers structural repairs, replacement of expansion joints and bearings, and strengthening of critical components. The move follows citywide structural inspections of ageing flyovers aimed at improving safety and extending asset life.
The Delhi Public Works Department has been granted administrative approval and expenditure sanction amounting to INR 38 crore for repair and rehabilitation works on the Zakira Flyover and the Seelampur Flyover. The decision is part of the department's ongoing efforts to address structural ageing and ensure safety on key urban transport infrastructure.
Of the total amount, INR 20.18 crore has been approved for repairs to the Zakira Flyover in west Delhi. Built in the 1970s, the flyover is a critical link between Rohtak Road and Najafgarh Road and carries a high volume of heavy commercial traffic from nearby industrial areas such as Mundka, Nangloi and Anand Parbat. The approved work includes repairing damaged concrete, replacing worn-out expansion joints and elastomeric bearings, and strengthening girders and other load-bearing elements.
An additional INR 17.85 crore has been sanctioned for the rehabilitation of the Seelampur Flyover in east Delhi, which has been in operation for around two decades. Planned works include structural strengthening, prestressing of strands, replacement of joints and other measures to improve durability and ensure smoother movement for daily commuters.
Officials have stated that both projects must be completed within the sanctioned cost, with no allowance for time or cost overruns. A five-year defect liability period has been made mandatory, requiring contractors to address any faults that may arise after completion. All works will be executed as per the Delhi Schedule of Rates, and contractors will be required to maintain detailed records, including geo-tagged photographs before and after repairs.
The approvals follow earlier directions by the Delhi government to conduct structural audits of all 102 flyovers maintained by the PWD. Several older structures, particularly those built before major infrastructure upgrades in the city, were identified as needing urgent maintenance and rehabilitation.
