Two IndiGo flights operating from Delhi and Mumbai to Hyderabad were diverted to Vijayawada after dense fog reduced visibility at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Each aircraft was carrying close to 200 passengers and landed safely at Gannavaram Airport as a precautionary measure. After weather conditions improved, the flights were later cleared to continue to Hyderabad. The incident reflects the recurring impact of winter fog on flight operations in several parts of the country, leading airlines to issue travel advisories and adjust schedules to maintain safety.
Two IndiGo flights scheduled to land in Hyderabad from Delhi and Mumbai were diverted to Vijayawada due to heavy fog conditions that affected visibility at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The low-visibility situation made it unsafe for aircraft to land at Hyderabad, prompting air traffic control to divert the flights as per standard safety procedures.
Officials at Gannavaram Airport confirmed that both aircraft landed safely with around 200 passengers on board each. Arrangements were made for passengers while the aircraft awaited clearance to resume operations. Once visibility levels at Hyderabad improved, the flights were allowed to continue their onward journey.
Winter fog has been a recurring challenge for airport operations across north and central India, often resulting in delays, diversions and cancellations. Hyderabad has witnessed similar disruptions in previous years during the fog season, particularly during early morning hours when visibility drops sharply.
Airlines, including IndiGo, have been advising passengers to monitor flight schedules closely and stay prepared for possible changes due to weather-related disruptions. Aviation authorities continue to prioritise safety, using diversions as a preventive step when landing conditions do not meet operational requirements.
