Synopsis

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to CIDCO regarding lapses in the implementation of prescribed pollution control measures at ongoing mass housing project sites within its jurisdiction. The civic body has emphasised strict compliance with the standard operating procedures related to air and noise pollution at construction sites to maintain air quality across the city. During recent inspections, violations were observed at CIDCO-led housing project sites near Juinagar railway station in Sanpada and in Vashi. The corporation has directed CIDCO to implement corrective measures and submit a compliance report within a stipulated timeframe, failing which action, including construction stoppage, may be initiated as per regulations.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has served a notice to CIDCO concerning non-compliance with prescribed standard operating procedures at construction sites of mass housing projects currently underway within the municipal limits. The action forms part of the civic body's broader efforts to ensure better air quality across Navi Mumbai through strict monitoring of construction-related pollution.

As part of these measures, the municipal corporation has been closely supervising the implementation of pollution control norms at construction sites to curb air and noise pollution. Under the directions of the municipal commissioner, a standard operating procedure has been notified for managing air pollution, noise pollution and blasting activities at construction locations. A circular outlining penal action for violations related to air and noise pollution at construction sites had been issued earlier, and relevant directions from the High Court were also passed in the past month regarding mandatory preventive measures.

Following these directives, a special meeting was held with developers and architects operating within the municipal area, during which they were instructed to strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures. However, during a recent inspection tour of the Turbhe division, civic officials observed that the prescribed measures were not being followed at a CIDCO mass housing project site near Juinagar railway station in Sector 11, Sanpada. Similar violations were also found at another CIDCO housing project site located at Plot No. 1, Sector 19, Vashi.

In response, the municipal corporation has issued notices directing CIDCO to immediately implement appropriate measures in line with the standard operating procedures to prevent air and noise pollution at the identified sites. CIDCO has also been asked to submit a detailed compliance report to the town planning department of the corporation within seven days.

The notice further states that failure to submit the compliance report within the specified period may lead to regulatory action, including the suspension of construction activities, in accordance with applicable rules. The civic body reiterated that maintaining air quality remains a priority and that strict action will continue to be taken against violations of environmental norms.
