The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has rolled out a fully digital system for property tax dues and deposit certificates. Property-owners can now retrieve detailed tax records and certificates instantly via the MCD portal, removing the need for manual visits and middlemen. The service is currently free during its pilot phase, though a nominal charge may be introduced once the system is officially adopted. This shift promises faster processing and greater transparency in real estate transactions.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has digitised the entire procedure for obtaining property tax dues and deposit certificates in a bid to simplify property dealings. Citizens can now log into the MCD portal using their registered mobile numbers to access complete records of outstanding dues or deposits on their property.
This new online system is intended to eliminate intermediaries and curb discretionary practices by officials. A senior MCD official explained that a certificate detailing the property tax payments is often needed during property transfers. In the past, applicants had to visit zonal offices, and the process generally took eight to ten days because records were verified manually. With the updated platform in place, certificates can now be downloaded instantly from the website.
During the current trial phase, the civic body is offering the service free of charge. In future, a small fee may be introduced after full rollout in order to discourage misuse.
The digitalisation of property tax certificates by the MCD marks a significant step towards modernising municipal services and improving efficiency in the real estate sector. By enabling property holders to instantly access tax records online, the civic body is removing bureaucratic bottlenecks and reducing room for corruption. While the service is currently free, introducing a nominal fee later could help sustain the system and deter abuse. Overall, this initiative is poised to enhance transparency and speed in property transactions across Delhi.
